Sand Rubber Mixtures under Oedometric Loading: Sand-like vs. Rubber-like Behavior

چکیده
Each year, the number of scrap tires disposed in huge piles across world continuously increases. Consequently, new recycling solutions for these materials have to be proposed. Among them, one possibility consists shredding and mixing obtained tire chips with sand, which can used as alternative soils various geotechnical applications, such backfilling retaining structures, slope highway embankment stabilization, road constructions, soil erosion prevention, seismic isolation foundations. Such types mixtures are highly heterogeneous due important difference elasticity deformability between two constituents, leads complex mechanical behavior. In this article, one-dimensional loading/unloading behavior sand-rubber is investigated by laboratory strain-controlled experiments performed different packing densities, particle sizes, rubber contents, sand/rubber size ratios. After a global analysis increase deformation fraction stress level, novel criterion classify mixture sand-like or rubber-like was proposed, based on concavity void ratio—log vertical curve. The increased level fraction, up limits where saturation voids their filling induces A simplified phase diagram, limited range study, confined stiffness swelling were also analyzed.

Sand – rubber mixtures ( large rubber chips )
Mixtures of small rigid sand particles Ds and large soft rubber particles Dr are prepared at different volume fractions and tested to investigate their small-strain and zero-lateral strain responses (Dr /Ds & 10). Both data sets are simultaneously gathered in an oedometer cell instrumented with bender elements. Data are analyzed in the context of mixture theory and with the aid of numerical sim...
متن کاملHyperelastic Material Models of Rubber and Rubber-like Materials
ABSTRACT The variety of applications of rubber-like materials in different industrial areas is enormous. In the automotive industry rubber is utilized in tires, as engine and door seals, whereas in aerospace industry rubber rings are used in fuel systems. In other engineering fields, rubbers have been used in conveyor belts, meteorological balloons and vibration isolation bearings or shock and ...
متن کاملConstitutive modelling of hyperelastic rubber-like materials
The simulation of rubber-like material behaviour by means of the finite element method has been described in this study. Proper material models were selected for the numerical description of static hyper-elasticity. The combinations of a continuum damage mechanics concept and a pseudo-elastic concept with Gao’s elastic law were used to simulate the ideal Mullins effect. Furthermore, a specific ...
متن کاملA Rubber-like Protein in Insect Cuticle
The cuticle of arthropods is complex and varies enormously in structure, properties and composition even within the same species (cf. Richards, 1951). However, the mechanical behaviour is dominated by materials in the solid state of matter so that the mature cuticles hitherto described in the literature may be classed as solid cuticle. It was therefore surprising to find that certain patches of...
متن کاملTriaxial behavior of sand-mica mixtures using genetic programming
This study investigates an application of genetic programming (GP) for modeling of coarse rotund sand– mica mixtures. An empirical model equation is developed by means of GP technique. The experimental database used for GP modeling is based on a laboratory study of the properties of saturated coarse rotund sand and mica mixtures with various mix ratios under a 100 kPa effective stresses, becaus...
